The Gruffalo

Did you know that during this time of quarantine we've received so many people reading aloud great children's books? Recently, Michelle Obama joined in and read an amazing title, The Gruffalo. After listening to her read aloud the story, scroll down to find a great directed drawing activity from The Book Wrangler.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week, celebrate your teacher by writing a story about your favorite memory from this year. Remember, stories should all have a beginning, middle, and end! As a fun example, one of my favorite stories is below. Patricia Polloco wrote about a teacher that took some extra time with her as a child, and it makes for a wonderful story of just how great teachers can be!

Poetry is FUN!

I'm sharing a silly, funny poem this week from Shel Silverstein called 'Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too'. Listen for rhyming words in the poem.

Want to take it a step further? Try your hand at a poem by coming up with some rhyming words or word families, and write some silly sentences of your own! Send me pictures or even a video of you reading your poem to be added to the library page slide show!

Guess What?

This week we celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd! This is a day to think about how we impact our earth and how we can make a difference in keeping it clean and nice for years to come! I'm sharing a fun Earth Day video from PBS kids to get you thinking about how you can help the earth! After watching, check out the easy Earth Day craft to recycle a common household item into a bird feeder below!

Hi Friends!

This week I wanted to share a read aloud that I was excited to get to this year. In fact, the book is still sitting right on my desk by my computer! So, instead of hearing it read by me, I will let another great reader share it with you. I Don't Want to be a Frog by Dev Petty is one that makes me laugh, and I hope you get a good laugh out of it, too. Click on the video below to listen to the story via YouTube. Then, scroll down a little further for some extension activities to add to the story.

Optional Activity

One of the things I like about this story is that you get to learn some quick facts about the different animal characters. Although the story is fantasy (since the animal characters are talking like humans do) it does have some good information! Want to learn more? Check out PebbleGo by clicking HERE and read/listen to some more information about one or more of the animals in the story. You could even create a quick four square from a sheet of paper. I'll add an example of this below. Write or draw something you learned in each box. If you decide to complete this activity, send it to me! I'd love to see your research skills in action!
